Unboxing the Tarot of the Golden Wheel

Tarot of the Golden Wheel by Mila Losenko

Some of my earliest memories of Russian illustrations were from a collection of fairytales I had as a child, and to me they were some of the most beautiful images.  They still capture my imagination to this day.

It was no surprise that when I came across this deck that i'd be absolutely delighted by it, especially since it has the same bright and colourful fairy tale book feel to it.  I also have a fondness for the Russian Laquer Art as seen in the Tarot of St Petersburg and shown here in these photographs in the form of my little brooch.  There are no images of that style in this deck, but I wasn't expecting there to be.

If I were to be allowed one little wish it would be that this deck came with a nice chunky book with some of the fairytales that inspired the images.  That said,  the little book that does come with it is informative and beautifully written.

Working with the deck i've experienced a stirring of emotions through the combination of the imagery of the cards, their characters and the gentle voice that still gets to the heart of things - much like fairytales and folk stories tend to do.  They guide us through a story while encouraging us to listen for the nugget of wisdom within.

The deck comes in the new sturdy style of box which U S Games have been using more recently, and for that i'm glad.

The cards measure 13cm x 7cm and the finish is a nice matt gloss making them easy to shuffle.

If you are looking for a Rider Waite style of deck with a Slavic folk art or fairytale feel, then this may be one for you.

The Tarot of the Golden Wheel is created by Mila Losenko and published by U S Games Systems Inc.
